old hollywood bedroom inspiration

I've been drawn to the Old Hollywood regency school of interiors lately, and I love how pieces of that era always seem to pop up in modern rooms. I was looking at Lonny's bedroom inspiration section, saw the picture below, and got inspired. My dream bedroom would look like this - it's a bit masculine, but the pops of color + bits of whimsy keep it from going overboard. I'd probably put my precious glittery Louboutins on my bedside table just to keep it feminine.

art & architecture: cardboard sky

Eye candy for today is University of Texas architecture student Daniel Morrison's ambitious installation, featured at the Art Alliance Austin event last year. A friend of mine volunteered for the project and helped cut and fold the hundreds of cardboard crosses that make up the final piece. It's been sitting in my inspiration folder for about a year now, and I still can't get over it.

nyfw favorites: suno

Can you tell that I'm a graphic designer who loves black and yellow? I'm pretty sure my love for print, texture, and my favorite colors directly translates into my fashion aesthetic. My apologies if it gets a bit repetitive. Suno is a rising star in the fashion world with their second collection already getting a lot of attention (Rachel Bilson wore a beautiful printed Suno skirt to Fashion's Night Out) - and it's easy to see why. Their ability to mix bold prints and wildly different outfits yet still maintain a cohesive look sets them apart from other designers who merely play with pattern. It's quite fitting and no mistake that the word "Suno" is actually Japanese for "print." Actually, I just made that up, but wouldn't it be perfect?

nyfw favorites: proenza schouler

Hey all. Sorry for my delay in posting but I've been crazy busy lately. That being said, I'll be committing to at least one post a week from now on, but expect more from me soon! I'm a bit late on this post, but New York Fashion Week was stunning this month, as it always is. I, like most of the world, had to be content with watching the shows live-streaming on my iPhone (technology!) or laptop instead of sitting front-row with celebs, but, you know - I'm hoping I'll be there at some point in my life, so I'm contently biding my time until then. I did, however, get to attend Fashion's Night Out this year and it was a madhouse! Highlights of the evening: saying hi to Marc Jacobs in person, chatting with Jonathan Adler (while he made a pot on a spinning wheel!), and almost running into Karl Lagerfeld as he crossed the street with his entourage. Surreal, really.





Anyway, my favorites for the Spring 2011 RTW collections are composed of things I'd actually wear. As much as I loved Marc Jacobs' collection, I just don't think I'll be pulling off the 70's look this spring like he did. One collection that particularly stood out to me (and most everyone, judging from the press it's getting) was Proenza Schouler. I missed seeing the Proenza boys at Barney's on FNO, which I'm still sore about, but staring at their pieces on my Style.com iPhone app whilst on the subway or in the car has calmed me down a bit. A few words to describe them: ladylike, polished, well put-together, and WEARABLE! I would die to walk around in any of their creations, either to the office or out on the town. Below you'll find 4 of my favorites. Jack and Lazaro, you are simply geniuses.

wear this, hang that

If you know me, you know I'm positively enamored by anything remotely similar to a Mondrian theme. I even bookmarked this website to play with on my iPhone when I'm bored (it's so much more dramatic on a touch screen, I promise!) Inspired by Joy's "this & that" column (which, I confess, is my favorite part of her lovely blog!). The Piet-inspired cuff is by La Petite Princesse - a jewelry shop in SoHo where everything is handmade and absolutely gorgeous. I am dying for this bracelet... and everything else in the store.

Because I'm a recent graduate, I like to use the words, "young, fabulous, and broke" to describe myself (p.s., check out looks by the designer with the same moniker for shopbop, amazing!). Keeping on trend for fall 2010 doesn't have to cost a fortune, so I pulled together some things for the girl who wants to be fabulous on a budget. I tried to represent as many on-trend things as I could: leopard, military, stripes (they're not going away, not yet at least), and overall biker-chic. All of the pieces are under $100, with the exception of the Michael Kors watch, which I couldn't resist. One more thing: I own most of these pieces... so I'll personally attest to their gorgeousness in person. Enjoy!
